8th Annual Great Lakes International Aviation Conference and Expo

Sonny Webster: On Saturday, February 2, 2008 I and Tim Brooks attended this conference at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi.  We met up with my ATP friend from work, Gary Read and Tim's son Jeff who is currently a senior at WMU where he is also a flight instructor.  There were 90+ exhibitors on hand representing a broad spectrum of products and services.  There were several drawings for various door prizes: I won an hour of dual from Solo Aviation in Ann Arbor and Tim won a plastic "Flight Box" - may be good for his next fishing trip.  There was one Special Light Sport Aircraft (S-LSA) on display - a Flight Design CT from Hillsdale Aero.  I, Tim and Jeff spent quite a bit of time talking with President and Owner Jim Scheibner who answered all of our question about the airplane as we sat in the cockpit and toured the exterior.  He plans to have one of these at our 2008 Pancake Breakfast.  We attended a presentation by Cessna on the development of the new 350 and 400 models that was carried out by the previous parent company, Columbia.  We were very impressed by the technology and performance but the prices were equally as stunnin!  The attendance seemed a bit thin but it was a good day spent with good people who have a common passion for aviation.  Below are a few pictures from the day.
